Ronald Reagan- 1981 Inaugural Address
Judge Lewis was appointed to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals in 2024 by Governor Kay Ivey. Prior to taking the appellate bench Judge Lewis was Presiding Judge of the 19th Judicial Circuit, where he served as a Circuit Judge since 2016...
As I practiced law over three states in federal and state courts, I observed that the justice system was different based on who you were, where you were, and who you knew. As the Presiding Judge of the 19th Circuit, I was determined to continue to create a court environment where the rule of law governs, everyone is treated fairly and the sentences imposed are just so our communities and circuit were safe. As a judge on the Court of Civil Appeals I will continue to work that our courts are fair and just, while working to represent the interests of all Alabamians.- I work for you!
My judicial philosophy centers on interpreting the law as written, adhering closely to the original intent of the Constitution and statutes. I believe in the importance of judicial restraint, respecting the separation of powers, and preserving traditional values and principles.
Elected judges play a crucial role in serving and protecting the community because they hold the power to uphold justice, fairness, and the rule of law. By administering impartial and equitable decisions, elected judges ensure that all individuals receive equal treatment under the law, thereby promoting trust and confidence in the legal system.
